Une prière digne d'être appelée prière
Alexander Whyte
Prayer worth calling prayer, prayer that God will call true prayer and will treat as true prayer, takes for more time by the clock than one man in a thousand thinks.

Les instructions célestes
Randy Smith
Similar to the instructions we pass along to our children for their physical safety, our Father in heaven gives us His instruction for our spiritual safety. Yet like ignorant and carefree children, we at times ignore His teaching. We at times want to do things according to our own estimation apart from the Scriptures. And when we do this, God in His mercy allows us to feel pain. Guilt is a gift from God that makes us sensitive to sin. Another word for this that we commonly use is conviction.

Comment combattre le plaisir du péché ?
Sam Storms, Leasures Evermore : The Life-Changing Power of Knowing God, 2000, p. 20.
How do you fight the pleasure of sin? I’ll tell you: with another pleasure. Holiness is not attained, at least not in any lasting, life-changing way, merely through prohibitions, threats, fear, or shame-based appeals. Holiness is attained by believing in, trusting, banking on, resting in, savoring, and cherishing God’s promise of a superior happiness that comes only by falling in love with Jesus. The power that the pleasures of sin exert on the human soul will ultimately be overcome only by the superior power of the pleasures of knowing and being known, loving and being loved by God in Christ.
Sam Storms, leasures Evermore: The Life-Changing Power of Knowing God, 2000, p. 20.

Jean Calvin
The word hope I take for faith; and indeed hope is nothing else but the constancy of faith.
John Calvin

Un acte nécessaire ?
Daniel Fuller, The Unity of the Bible, Zondervan, 1992, p. 121, 129, 136.
Creation of the world was not a necessary act that God undertook to overcome loneliness…(and) God certainly did not create the world in order to become more glorious (Jn. 17:5). …(On the contrary, God created the world) because He looked forward to the greater blessings that would be His as His glory and goodness met real needs in the lives of people whom He would create, who would depend on Him for joy and fulfillment. …God’s ultimate purpose is to increase His joy by sharing the blessing of the Trinity in creation.
Daniel Fuller, The Unity of the Bible, Zondervan, 1992, p. 121, 129, 136.

L'image du Christ
ALFRED EDERSHEIM (1825-1889)
BIBLISTE ANGLICAN
No picture of the Christ more dear to us, than this of the unlimited healing of whatever disease of body or soul. In its blessed indefiniteness it conveys the infinite potential of relief, whatever misery fall on us, or whatever care or sorrow oppress us. He must be blind, indeed, who sees not in this Physician the Divine Healer; in this Christ the Light of the World.
ALFRED EDERSHEIM (1825–1889)
ANGLICAN BIBLICAL SCHOLAR

Charles Hodge
When the great promise of the Spirit was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost, it was fulfilled not in reference to the apostles only.

Max Planck
It was not by accident that the greatest thinkers of all ages were deeply religious souls.

Alexander Whyte
And as grace is free, so is it sure. Nothing can change, or alter, or turn away sovereign grace.

Auteur inconnu
It is an instructive and solemn fact, brought out in the history of more than one revival, that when a whole neighborhood had been well watered with the showers of grace, no drop of blessing has descended there where a spirit of controversy and strife had obtained a footing. The Spirit of God hovered around but fled from the scene of discord as from a doomed region where his dove-like temper could find no resting-place… Ever remember that “His work is sown in peace of them that make peace,” and no dwelling can be more distasteful, no vessel more unsuitable to Him, than a heart which delights itself with matters that provoke contention and strife… Labor with all diligence to keep your own minds in the peace of God, and in your intercourse and connection with others ever to strive for “the things which make for peace.”
Addresses by Scottish Evangelical Leaders delivered in Glasgow in 1840.

God only wants one thing from us: that we live according to his laws. And he has shown us how to do this by putting his Son on earth in human form. Thus by imitating the example of Christ we offer to God all the worship he requires.
