Nous devrions observer que Dieu n'envoie personne en enfer. Il désire que personne ne périsse (2 Pi 3.9). Dieu a créé les humains pour qu'ils soient en communion avec lui et leur a fourni les moyens de l'être. C'est le choix de l'homme de connaître l'agonie de l'enfer. Son propre péché l'y envoie, et son rejet des bienfaits de la mort du Christ l'empêche d'y échapper. Comme l'a dit C.S. Lewis, le péché, c'est l'être humain qui dit à Dieu tout au long de sa vie : "Va-t'en et laisse-moi tranquille." L'enfer, c'est Dieu qui dit finalement à l'être humain : "Tu peux avoir ce que tu veux".

We should observe that God does not send anyone to hell. He desires that none should perish (2 Pet. 3:9). God created humans to have fellowship with Him and provided the means by which they can have that fellowship. It is a human’s choice to experience to agony of hell. His or her own sin sends the person there, and his or her rejection of the benefits of Christ’s death prevents escape. As C.S. Lewis has put it, sin is the human being saying to God throughout life, “Go away and leave me alone.” Hell is God’s finally saying to the human, “You may have your wish.”
