J'ai vu plus clairement que jamais que la première grande et principale affaire à laquelle je devais m'occuper chaque jour était de rendre mon âme heureuse dans le Seigneur. La première chose dont je devais me préoccuper n'était pas de savoir comment je pourrais servir le Seigneur, comment je pourrais le glorifier, mais comment je pourrais mettre mon âme dans un état heureux, et comment mon homme intérieur pourrait être nourri... J'ai vu que la chose la plus importante que je devais faire était de me consacrer à la lecture de la Parole de Dieu et à sa méditation.

I saw more clearly than ever, that the first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was, to have my soul happy in the Lord. The first thing to be concerned about was not, how much I might serve the Lord, how I might glorify the Lord; but how I might get my soul into a happy state, and how my inner man may be nourished… I saw that the most important thing I had to do was to give myself to the reading of the Word of God and to meditation on it.
