La façon d'ouvrir notre cœur aux autres est de recevoir à nouveau la grâce de Dieu et d'apprécier ce qu'elle signifie : voir notre propre besoin du Christ ; venir recevoir sa miséricorde ; sentir combien son amour pour nous est immérité ; se rappeler comment il a également ouvert son cœur à ceux dont le cœur est fermé contre nous. Nous verrons alors que le cœur qui est trop étroit pour recevoir un compagnon chrétien est trop étroit pour introniser le Seigneur Jésus-Christ. Mais le cœur qui est ouvert pour recevoir la grâce du Christ apprendra à accueillir tous ceux que le Christ lui-même a accueillis.

The way to open our hearts to others is by receiving afresh the grace of God and appreciating what it means: seeing our own need of Christ; coming to receive His mercy; sensing how undeserved His love for us is; remembering how He has also opened His heart to those whose hearts are closed against us. Then we will see that the heart which is too narrow to receive a fellow Christian is too narrow to enthrone the Lord Jesus Christ. But the heart that is opened to receive the grace of Christ will learn to welcome all those whom Christ Himself has welcomed.
