The cross is the central symbol of Christianity. Many cathedrals have been built in the shape of the cross.Their towers are crowned with the symbol. Every mass is a reenactment of the sacrificial death of Christ. One can hardly turn in any direction without seeing a cross on a hill, on a church, or as a piece of jewelry. This universal symbol is understood by virtually everyone. Its very sight calls to mind Christ’s first-century execution. It is his salvation symbol.
