Le but de la prédication est donc d'apporter aux membres de l'Église de Dieu des changements qui les édifient individuellement et qui édifient le corps dans son ensemble. Individuellement, une bonne prédication pastorale aide chaque personne de la congrégation à grandir dans sa foi, en conformant de plus en plus sa vie aux normes bibliques. Collectivement, une telle prédication édifie l'église comme un corps dans la relation des parties au tout, et du tout à Dieu et au monde.

The purpose of preaching, then, is to effect changes among the members of God’s church that build them up individually and that build up the body as a whole. Individually, good pastoral preaching helps each person in the congregation to grow in his faith, conforming his life more and more to biblical standards. Corporately, such preaching builds up the church as a body in the relationship of the parts to the whole, and the whole to God and to the world.
