La Bible parle du commandement de Dieu afin d'attirer notre attention non seulement sur ce qu'ont été la volonté, l'œuvre et l'auto-révélation à cette époque, mais aussi sur ce qu'elles sont ici et maintenant pour nous-mêmes. En sa qualité de témoin, elle réclame non seulement notre reconnaissance des faits mais aussi notre foi, non seulement notre appréciation des événements passés qu'elle atteste mais aussi notre prise de conscience que les choses sont toujours les mêmes ici et maintenant, et que ce que Dieu a ordonné et interdit aux autres, il nous l'ordonne et nous l'interdit maintenant.

The Bible speaks of God’s command in order to call our attention not merely to what the will and work and self- revelation were there and then, but to what they are here and now for ourselves. In its capacity as witness it claims not only our recognition of facts but also our faith, not merely our appreciation of the past events which it attests but also our realisation that matters are still the same here and now, and that as and what God commanded and forbade others, He now commands and forbids us.
