Si le monde n'est pas déraciné de nos cœurs

Si le monde n'est pas déraciné de nos cœurs, il les dévorera. Il faut désherber, si l'on veut que la bonne semence de la grâce pousse. Mais quel désherbant pouvons-nous utiliser contre l'esprit du monde ? Voici une formule puissante, en trois volets, tirée de la Bible :

1. Reconnaissez que l'amour du monde est l'ennemi de l'amour du Père (1 Jean 2:15). Vous ne pouvez pas avoir les deux. Vous devez en choisir un seul. Faites le bon choix.

2. Rappelez-vous que c'est le monde qui a crucifié le Christ et qu'il a fallu le sacrifice de la Croix pour vous en délivrer (Galates 6:14). Comment pouvez-vous négocier avec l'esprit qui a comploté l'assassinat de votre Sauveur ?

3. Réfléchissez au fait que le monde, dans ce sens, est transitoire et éphémère (1 Jean 2:17) ; ce n'est pas un investissement solide. Consacrez-vous plutôt à avoir un "trésor dans le ciel" (Matt. 6:19-21).

If the world is not rooted out from our hearts, it will devour them. There must be weeding, if the good seed of grace is to grow. But what weed-killer can we use against the spirit of the world? Here is a potent, three-fold formula from the Bible:

1. Recognize that love of the world is the enemy of the love of the Father (1 John 2:15). You cannot have both. You must choose one only. Make the right choice.

2. Remember that it was the world that crucified Christ and that it took the sacrifice of the Cross to deliver you from it (Galatians 6:14). How can you negotiate with the spirit which plotted the assassination of your Savior?

3. Reflect on the fact that the world, in this sense, is transient and ephemeral (1 John 2:17); it is not a solid investment. Devote yourself instead to having “treasure in heaven” (Matt. 6:19-21).
