Dans l'un de ses sermons, Spurgeon a rappelé à sa congrégation la doctrine de l'élection de certains par Dieu dès la fondation du monde. Mais il a fait remarquer que notre tâche consiste à prêcher l'Évangile à toute créature, et non à trouver les élus. Spurgeon aurait dit que si Dieu avait peint une bande jaune dans le dos de chacun des élus, il courrait dans les rues de Londres, soulevant les chemises, et prêchant l'Évangile aux élus. Mais Spurgeon nous rappelle que Dieu n'a pas fait cela. Au contraire, il nous a ordonné de "prêcher l'Évangile à toute créature". Nous devons lancer un appel urgent à tous pour qu'ils viennent au Christ.

In one of his sermons, Spurgeon reminded his congregation about the doctrine of God’s electing some from the foundation of the world. But he noted that our task is to preach the gospel to every creature, not to find the elect. Spurgeon reportedly said that if God had painted a yellow strip down the back of each of the elect, he would run up and down the streets of London, lifting up shirttails, and preaching the gospel to the elect. But Spurgeon reminds us that God has not done so. Instead He has commanded us to “preach the gospel to every creature.” We must urgently appeal to everyone to come to Christ.
