La sanctification est une oeuvre du Dieu Trinitaire, mais elle est attribuée plus particulièrement à l'Esprit Saint dans les Ecritures... Bien que l'homme ait le privilège de coopérer avec l'Esprit de Dieu, il ne peut le faire qu'en vertu de la force que l'Esprit lui communique de jour en jour. Le développement spirituel de l'homme n'est pas un accomplissement humain mais une oeuvre de la grâce divine. L'homme ne mérite aucun crédit pour ce qu'il y contribue de manière instrumentale.

Sanctification is a work of the Triune God, but is ascribed more particularly to the Holy Spirit in Scripture… Though man is privileged to cooperate with the Spirit of God, he can do this only in virtue of the strength which the Spirit imparts to him from day to day. The spiritual development of man is not a human achievement but a work of divine grace. Man deserves no credit whatsoever for that which he contributes to it instrumentally.
