Ce qui nous dérangeait autrefois ne nous dérange plus. Ce qui activait autrefois notre conscience ne semble plus le faire. Ce que nous savions être en dehors des frontières de Dieu, et donc fonctionnellement en dehors des nôtres, vit à l'intérieur de nos frontières, et cela n'a plus d'importance pour nous. C'est un endroit effrayant. Le cœur dur est un cœur de pierre. Il n'est plus malléable. Il est dur et résistant au changement, il n'est plus tendre et sensible à la pression des mains de l'Esprit. Il y a du mal dans nos cœurs et dans les actes de nos mains, et nous sommes d'accord avec cela. Existe-t-il un endroit plus dangereux pour un croyant ?

What once bothered us doesn’t bother us anymore. What once activated our conscience doesn’t seem to anymore. What we knew was outside of God’s boundaries, and therefore functionally outside of ours, lives inside our boundaries, and it doesn’t matter to us anymore. It is a scary place to be. The hard heart is a stony heart. It is not malleable anymore. It’s hard and resistant to change, no longer tender and responsive to the squeeze of the hands of the Spirit. There is evil in our hearts and in the acts of our hands, and we’re okay with it. Could there be a more dangerous place for a believer to be?
