"C'est possible"

Lorsque nous parlons de vivifier, d'approfondir ou de fortifier la vie spirituelle, nous pensons à quelque chose de faible, de mauvais et de pécheur ; et c'est une grande chose que de prendre notre place devant Dieu avec la confession : O Dieu, notre vie spirituelle n'est pas ce qu'elle devrait être ! Que Dieu travaille cela dans chaque cœur.

Lorsque nous regardons autour de nous dans l'Église, nous voyons tant d'indications de faiblesse, d'échec, de péché et d'insuffisance, que nous sommes obligés de nous demander : "Pourquoi en est-il ainsi ? Est-il nécessaire que l'Église du Christ vive dans un état aussi bas ? Ou est-il réellement possible que le peuple de Dieu vive toujours dans la joie et la force de son Dieu ? Tout cœur croyant doit répondre : "C'est possible".

When we speak of the quickening or the deepening or the strengthening of the spiritual life, we are thinking of something that is feeble and wrong and sinful; and it is a great thing to take our place before God with the confession: O God, our spiritual life is not what it should be! May God work that in every heart.

As we look around about on the Church we see so many indications of feebleness and of failure and of sin and of shortcoming, that we are compelled to ask, Why is it? Is there any necessity for the Church of Christ to be living in such a low state? Or is it actually possible that God’s people should be living always in the joy and strength of their God? Every believing heart must answer, It is possible.
