C'est ici, dans sa sainte maison de prière, que nous pouvons venir en notre jour de repos, et être à l'abri, si nous le voulons, de toute autre pensée que celles du monde à venir. Ici, nous ne nous réunissons pas pour des affaires terrestres, mais pour un but unique, et ce but est le même que celui pour lequel les saints et les anges se réunissent en cette compagnie innombrable devant le trône de Dieu. S'il y a un endroit sur la terre qui, même s'il n'est que très peu visible, fait de l'ombre aux cours du Dieu d'en haut, c'est certainement là où Son peuple se réunit, dans toute sa faiblesse, son ignorance et son péché, dans sa condition pauvre et basse, mais avec des cœurs humbles et fidèles, dans Sa Maison de Prière.

Here in His holy House of Prayer we may come on our day of rest, and be safe, if we will, from any thoughts but those of the world to come. Here we gather together for no earthly business, but for a purpose of one sort only; and that purpose is the same for which saints and angels are met together in that innumerable company before the throne of God. If there is a place on earth which, however faintly and dimly, shadows out the courts of God on high, surely it is where His people are met together, in all their weakness and ignorance and sin, in their poor and low estate, yet with humble and faithful hearts, in His House of Prayer.
