En fait, nous sommes plus proches de Dieu que jamais, bien que nous soyons privés des consolations que nous associions autrefois à notre spiritualité. Ce que nous pensions être une communion avec lui était en réalité une entrave à cette communion.....
La croix est à la fois le symbole de notre salut et le modèle de notre vie. Tout ce qui est arrivé au Christ nous arrive d'une certaine manière. Lorsque l'obscurité nous enveloppe et que nous sommes sourds à tout sauf au cri de notre propre douleur, il est bon de savoir que le Père trace en nous l'image de son Fils, que la signature de Jésus est apposée sur nos âmes. Pour Jésus, les ténèbres de la nuit ont fait place à la lumière du matin.

Actually, we are closer to God than ever before, although we are deprived of the consolations that we once associated with our spirituality. What we thought was communion with him was really a hindrance to that communion….
The cross is both the symbol of our salvation and the pattern of our lives. Everything that happened to Christ in some way happens to us. When darkness envelops us and we are deaf to everything except the shriek of our own pain, it helps to know that the Father is tracing in us the image of his Son, that the signature of Jesus is being stamped on our souls. For Jesus, the darkness of night gave way to the light of morning.
