Comment combattre le plaisir du péché ? Je vais vous le dire : avec un autre plaisir. On n'atteint pas la sainteté, du moins pas de manière durable et qui change la vie, simplement par des interdictions, des menaces, la peur ou des appels à la honte. On atteint la sainteté en croyant, en faisant confiance, en misant sur, en se reposant sur, en savourant et en chérissant la promesse de Dieu d'un bonheur supérieur qui ne vient qu'en tombant amoureux de Jésus. Le pouvoir que les plaisirs du péché exercent sur l'âme humaine ne sera finalement vaincu que par le pouvoir supérieur des plaisirs de connaître et d'être connu, d'aimer et d'être aimé par Dieu en Christ.

How do you fight the pleasure of sin? I’ll tell you: with another pleasure. Holiness is not attained, at least not in any lasting, life-changing way, merely through prohibitions, threats, fear, or shame-based appeals. Holiness is attained by believing in, trusting, banking on, resting in, savoring, and cherishing God’s promise of a superior happiness that comes only by falling in love with Jesus. The power that the pleasures of sin exert on the human soul will ultimately be overcome only by the superior power of the pleasures of knowing and being known, loving and being loved by God in Christ.
