En cas de danger, l'État peut enrôler des hommes pour se battre pour sa liberté, mais il n'y a pas de conscrits dans l'armée du Seigneur. Pour porter une croix, le chrétien doit la prendre de son plein gré. Aucune autorité ne peut nous obliger à nourrir les affamés ou à évangéliser les perdus, à prier pour le réveil ou à nous sacrifier pour le Christ et pour l'humanité souffrante. Le chrétien idéal est celui qui sait qu'il est libre de faire ce qu'il veut et qui veut être un serviteur. C'est le chemin qu'a pris le Christ ; béni soit l'homme qui le suit.

When in danger the state can conscript men to fight for her freedom, but there are no conscripts in the army of the Lord. To bear a cross the Christian must take it up of his own free will. No authority can compel us to feed the hungry or evangelize the lost or pray for revival or sacrifice ourselves for Christ’s sake and the sake of suffering humanity. The ideal Christian is one who knows he is free to do as he will and wills to be a servant. This is the path Christ took; blessed is the man who follows Him.
