Le présent
Le présent est le seul moment où un devoir peut être accompli ou une grâce reçue.
C.S. Lewis, A Journey to Victorious Praying, Moody Publishers, 2003, p. 184.
The present is the only time in which any duty may be done or grace received.

La bonne nouvelle
John Piper, Desiring God, Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1996, p. 59.
The good news is that God Himself has decreed a way to satisfy the demands of His justice without condemning the whole human race. Hell is one way to settle accounts with sinners and uphold his justice. But there is another way. The wisdom of God has ordained a way for the love of God to deliver us from the wrath of God without compromising the justice of God. And what is this wisdom? The death of the Son of God for sinners!
John Piper, Desiring God, Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1996, p. 59.

Bill Arnold, NIV Application Commentary-1 Samuel, 2003, p. 242.
The Old Testament authors do not hesitate to name God as the origin of calamity or trouble, often described by the same term for “evil.” For examples, God sent a similar “evil spirit” (like the one He sent on Saul – 1 Sam. 16:14) between Abimelech and the citizens of Shechem (Jud. 9:23). The Bible does not attempt to answer the questions, Why does evil exist, and Where does evil come from? Instead, biblical authors attempt only to expose the nature of human sin, which they see as the ultimate origin of pain and suffering in the world.
Bill Arnold, NIV Application Commentary-1 Samuel, 2003, p. 242.

L'unité de l'église
George Eldon Ladd, A Theology of the New Testament, Eerdmans, 1993, p. 577.
The idea that the unity of the church found expression in some kind of external organization or ecclesiastical structure finds no support in the New Testament. Furthermore, the idea of denominations would be abhorrent to [the Apostle] Paul. The nearest thing to denominations was the sects in Corinth that Paul heartily condemned (1 Corinthians 1:12ff).

La prédication verbale de l'évangile
J.D. Greear, Gagner en perdant, Zondervan, 2015, p. 122.
Our works don’t replace the verbal preaching of the gospel, but in them we demonstrate, tangibly, the love and grace that we proclaim with our mouths. Effective gospel preaching is explaining with our words what we demonstrate with our lives. In our service, we make visible the invisible Christ.
J.D. Greear, Gaining by Losing, Zondervan, 2015, p. 122.

Se conformer à l'image du Christ
J.C. Ryle, Holiness, Moody Publishers, copyright 2010, p. 192.
He that would be conformed to Christ’s image, and become a Christlike man, must be constantly studying Christ Himself.

Une discipline aimante
Bryan Chapell, Holiness by Grace, 2001, page 194.
God will administer loving discipline for wrongdoing in order to keep His children from experiencing even more extreme consequences of sin. This discipline can be quite rigorous, because while the damage of sin unchecked can be so devastating, our wayward impulses can be so strong. There is an appropriate dread of divine discipline that motivates us to avoid sin. Still, in order for discipline to operate properly in the Christian life, we must remember that God’s discipline for his children is never punitive or damaging.

L'orgueil est subtil et changeant
Kevin DeYoung, Crazy Busy, 2013, p. 35-37.
Pride is subtle and shape-shifting. There is more of it at work in our hearts than we know, and more of it pulsing through our busyness than we realize. Pride is the villain with a thousand faces: People-pleasing, Pats on the back, Performance evaluation, Possessions, Proving myself, Pity, Poor planning, Power, Perfectionism, Position, Prestige and Posting. Here’s the bottom line: of all the possible problems contributing to our busyness, it’s a pretty good bet that one of the most pervasive is pride. It’s okay to be busy at times. You can’t love and serve others without giving of your time. So work hard; work long; work often. Just remember it’s not supposed to be about you. Feed people, not your pride.
Kevin DeYoung, Crazy Busy, 2013, p. 35-37.

Sam Storms, Pleasures Evermore : The Life-Changing Power of Knowing God, 2000, p. 186.
Meditation begins, but by no means ends, with thinking on Scripture. To meditate properly our souls must reflect upon what our minds have ingested and our hearts must rejoice in what our souls have grasped. We have truly meditated when we slowly read, prayerfully imbibe, and humbly rely upon what God has revealed to us in His Word – all of this, of course, in conscious dependence on the internal, energizing work of the Spirit.

La vérité directe de la Bible
Jerry Wragg, Exemplary Spiritual Leadership, DayOne, 2010, p. 17-18.
The straightforward truth of Scripture is able both to open blind eyes and transform the heart (Psalms 19:7-11). Supernatural discernment comes from a mind saturated with truth (Psalms 119:97-104). It brings clarity to flaws, liberates the conscience (James 1:25), uncovers the deepest issues of the inner man (Hebrews 4:12), and fully equips the believer for a life of pleasing God (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Quand notre progrès spirituel est inhibé
John MacArthur, Final Word, 2019, p. 70.
The more that God’s Word is removed from our lives, the more inhibited our spiritual progress becomes. Nothing else can do the work that the truth does. There is no sanctifying power in human wisdom, intuition, insight, or experience. It is only in the Word of God. Only the truth revealed in Scripture sanctifies – sound teaching accurately interpreted, understood, and applied. As divine revelation is embraced, spiritual progress is made. There are no alternative routes to godly character and holy living.
John MacArthur, Final Word, 2019, p. 70.

Nous sommes donc nés de nouveau par un acte souverain
Jerry Bridges, The Gospel for Real Life by Jerry Bridges, 2002, p. 133.
We do not have the ability to enter the kingdom unless the Spirit of God gives us life through the new birth. We are born again, then, by a sovereign, monergistic (that is, the Spirit working alone) act of the Holy Spirit. Then, as a result of that new birth, we exercise the faith given to us, and enter the kingdom of God.
Jerry Bridges, The Gospel for Real Life by Jerry Bridges, 2002, p. 133.
