La difficulté des commandements
Scott Hafemann, The God of Promise and the Life of Faith. Crossway Books, 2001, p. 203.
The difficulty of the commands is merely a reflection of the greatness of the Gospel. Jesus’ expectation is built on his anticipation of what God will do in the lives of His people! Jesus demands the humanly impossible precisely because His provisions are supernatural. The magnitude of Jesus’ commands must mean, therefore, that they are tied to the grandest promise of all, namely, the promise that God himself will work in every circumstance to conform us to the image of Christ (Romans 8:28-29).
Scott Hafemann, The God of Promise and the Life of Faith. Crossway Books, 2001, p. 203.

Sans la doctrine de la justification
Sans la doctrine de la justification par la foi seule, l'Évangile n'est pas simplement compromis, il est complètement perdu.

Le Christ établira et construira son Église
Herman Ridderbos
Christ will establish and build His church by causing the church to accept just this canon and, by means of the assistance and witness of the Holy Spirit, to recognize it as His.

Le combat spirituel
Paul David Tripp, Age of Opportunity, 1997, p. 116.
Spiritual warfare makes us think of demon possession, horrific demonstrations of satanic control, and dramatic exorcisms. But Scripture presents spiritual warfare not as the violent, bizarre end of the Christian life, but as what the Christian life is!
Paul David Tripp, Age of Opportunity, 1997, p. 116.

Comment construire des églises ?
Mark Dever, Discipling, 9Marks, page 19.
David Wells has observed, “It is very easy to build churches in which seekers congregate; it is very hard to build churches in which biblical faith is maturing into genuine discipleship.”
Mark Dever, Discipling, 9Marks, page 19.

John MacArthur, Our Sufficiency in Christ, 1991, p. 51.
Another guarantee of our inheritance is our persevering faith. Peter said we are protected by God’s power through faith (1 Peter 1:5). Faith is God’s gift to us; we don’t generate it on our own (Ephesians 2:8-9; Phil. 1:29). Faith is aroused by grace, upheld by grace, and energized by grace. Grace reaches into the soul of the believer, generating and maintaining faith. By God’s grace alone we trust Christ, and by grace we continue to believe.
John MacArthur, Our Sufficiency in Christ, 1991, p. 51.

Christ’s suffering on the cross is the focal point of the Christian faith. That’s where His deity, humanity, work, and suffering are most clearly seen.

Rejeter la théologie ?

To reject theology is to reject the knowledge of God, which is never an option for believers.

Permission spéciale ?
John MacArthur, Spiritual Warfare : Who's After Whom ? de Our Sufficiency in Christ, 1991, p. 230.
Satan and his demons never, never act against God’s people without the permission of God. And when God gives them permission, He always uses their work to accomplish some divine purpose. Often, to exalt the power of God and prove the devotion of His followers, God permits Satan to work the hardest on the noblest servants of God.

Trop occupés pour ne pas prier ?
Auteur inconnu, The Kneeling Christian, circa 1930, ch. 7.
We say we are too busy to pray. But the busier our Lord was, the more He prayed. Sometimes He had no leisure so much as to eat (Mark 3:20); and sometimes He had no leisure for needed rest and sleep (Mark 6:31). Yet He always took time to pray. If frequent prayer, and, at times, long hours of prayer, were necessary for our Savior, are they less necessary for us?

Dans la prière
John Piper, Desiring God, 1996, p. 156.
In prayer we admit our poverty and God’s prosperity, our bankruptcy and His bounty, our misery and His mercy. Therefore, prayer highly exalts and glorifies God precisely by pursuing everything we long for in Him and not in ourselves.
John Piper, Desiring God, 1996, p. 156.

John Broadus, Christian Joy.
An unthankful and complaining spirit is an abiding sin against God, and a cause of almost continual unhappiness; and yet how common such a spirit is. How prone we seem to be to forget the good that life knows, and remember and brood over its evil – to forget its joys, and think only of its sorrows – to forget thankfulness, and remember only to complain.
John Broadus, Christian Joy.

Lier Satan
David Reid
Let’s use the idea of "binding Satan," which is taught in some churches as a norm for Christian living. In Revelation 20:1-10 we read that Satan will be bound for a thousand years, later released for a short time, and finally thrown into the lake of fire (hell) for eternal punishment. In other words, it seems quite clear that until Satan is bound for the thousand years, he is not bound. He will not be bound until Scripture says he will be bound. The 1000 years of Revelation 20, when the Lord returns to this earth to set up His millennial kingdom, is a future event. Therefore the "binding of Satan" today is really unscriptural terminology and unscriptural practice, even though the intent may be for the glory of God. Christians who spiritualize the 1000 years of Revelation 20 to the present "Christian age" (the "amillennial" view of Revelation) are inconsistent if they call for the "binding" of Satan. If Revelation 20 is in the present time, then Satan is already bound by God, and he doesn’t need to be bound again and again by Christians! Any way you look at it, "binding Satan" shouldn’t be part of normal Christian conduct today.

Avec l'intercession du Christ
Thomas Watson
“Prayer as it comes from the saint is weak and languid; but when the arrow of a saint’s prayer is put into the bow of Christ’s intercession it pierces the throne of grace.”

La véritable prière qui prévaut.
Andrew Murray (1821-1917), pasteur sud-africain
The majority of Christian men and women who pray to a Living God know very little about real prevailing prayer. Yet prayer is the key that unlocks the door of God’s treasure-house. It is not too much to say that all real growth in the spiritual life – all victory over temptation, all confidence and peace in the presence of difficulties and dangers, all repose of spirit in times of great disappointment or loss, all habitual communion with God – depends upon the practice of secret prayer.

L'amour et la colère de Dieu
D.A. Carson, The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God, Crossway, 2000, p. 70.
Both God’s love and God’s wrath are ratcheted up in the move from the old covenant to the new, from the Old Testament to the New. These themes barrel along through redemptive history, unresolved, until they come to a resounding climax – in the cross.
D.A. Carson, The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God, Crossway, 2000, p. 70.
