L'écoute de nos prières par Dieu
Thomas Brooks
God’s hearing of our prayers doth not depend upon sanctification, but upon Christ’s intercession; not upon what we are in ourselves, but what we are in the Lord Jesus; both our persons and our prayers are acceptable in the beloved (Ephesians 1.6).

Rester dans l'équilibre
Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Preaching and Preachers, Zondervan, 1972, p. 305.
We all tend to go to extremes; some rely only on their own preparation and look for nothing more; others, as I say, tend to despise preparation and trust to the unction, the anointing and the inspiration of the Spirit alone. But there must be no “either/or” here; it is always “both/and.” These two things must go together.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Preaching and Preachers, Zondervan, 1972, p. 305.

La justice parfaite du Christ
John MacArthur
God saves believers by imputing to them the merit of Christ’s perfect righteousness – not in any sense because of their own righteousness. God accepts believers in Christ. He declares them perfectly righteous because of Christ. Their sins have been imputed to Christ, who has paid the full penalty. His righteousness is now imputed to them, and they receive the full merit for it.

Le désir refoulé
Sam Storms, Leasures Evermore : The Life-Changing Power of Knowing God, 2000, p. 103-104.
Volitional restraint and abstinence are only effective against sin when the soul embraces a pleasure superior to the one denied. There is little sanctifying value in depriving our souls of fleshly entertainment if steps are not taken to feast on all that God is for us in Jesus. Suppressed desire will always resurface, desperate for satisfaction. Finding fullness of joy and everlasting pleasure in God’s presence alone will serve to woo our wayward hearts from the power of the world, the flesh, and the Devil. Therefore, falling in love with the Son of God is the key to holiness.

He, who gives what he would as readily throw away, gives without generosity; for the essence of generosity is in self-sacrifice.

David Dickson
When the promised inheritance of heaven (which was figured by the pleasant land of promise), is not counted worthy of all the pains and difficulties which can be sustained and met with in the way of going toward it; the promised inheritance is but little esteemed of.

Comment vaincre la chair ?
Comment vaincre la chair :
Sinclair Ferguson, Healthy Christian Growth, p. 20-21.
How to overcome the flesh:
1. Be honest about the presence and nature of sin continuing in your life. Paul was. In Colossians 3:5-9 he recognizes that the seeds of sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed, anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language and lying, may remain in true Christians and plague their lives.
2. See the sin which continues to indwell you not in the light of your perspective but in the light of God’s judgment. Any and all sin merits His wrath.
3. Remember who you are as a Christian. You have been crucified, buried and raised with Christ (Col. 3:1-3). Consequently you are no longer under the reign and rule of sin (Romans 6:14,18). Now you must set your mind on Christ and on His reign in your life, and express your new identity in Christ by a life of holiness.
4. Refuse sin. Do not compromise with it; rather, put it to death (Col. 3:5).
5. Fill your life with Christ-like characteristics. (“Put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience”, Col. 3:12). In this way you will leave less and less room for sinful ones (v. 12-17).

Prier constamment pour obtenir sa grâce
Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness par Jerry Bridges, 1996, p. 127.
[We must] pray constantly for His enabling grace to say no to temptation, of choosing to take all practical steps to avoid known areas of temptation and flee from those that surprise us.

Il y a une distance infinie entre Dieu et ses créatures
John Owen, Meditation on the Glory of Christ
There is an infinite distance between God and His creatures, and it is an act of sheer grace for Him to take notice of earthly things. Christ, as God, is completely self-sufficient in His own eternal blessedness. How great, then, is the glory of His self-humiliation in taking our nature that He might bring us to God! Such humiliation was not forced on Him; He freely chose to do it.

Ce que la Bible promet
John MacArthur, The Glory of Heaven, 1996, page 96.
Scripture promises that heaven will be a realm of perfect bliss. Tears, pain, sorrow, and crying will have no place whatsoever in the New Heaven and New Earth. It is a place where God’s people will dwell together with Him eternally, utterly free from all the effects of sin and evil. God is pictured as personally wiping away the tears from the eyes of the redeemed. Heaven is a realm where death is fully conquered (1 Cor. 15:26). There is no sickness there, no hunger, no trouble, and no tragedy. Just absolute joy and blessings. It is frankly hard for our minds, which have never known anything but this sinful life and its calamities, to imagine.
John MacArthur, The Glory of Heaven, 1996, page 96.

J'aime analyser Jésus
Randy Smith
I love to analyze Jesus, the greatest teacher in action. For Him, it was not just about “dumping” information. He engaged His students with gentle love and masterful skill. Finding out where His audience stood and having them express it for themselves. Allowing them to share their thoughts, feelings, concerns and questions. Talking them through their situation. Taking passive listeners and creating active listeners. Instilling a desire to know truth. Always guiding the conversation to a spiritual emphasis. Using an appropriate and strategic economy of words.

Le lieu du paradis
William Barclay
For the Christian, heaven is where Jesus is. We do not need to speculate on what heaven will be like. It is enough to know that we will be forever with Him. When we love anyone with our whole hearts, life begins when we are with that person; it is only in their company that we are really and truly alive. It is so with Christ. In this world our contact with Him is shadowy, for we can only see through a glass darkly. It is spasmodic, for we are poor creatures and cannot live always on the heights. But the best definition of it is to say that heaven is that state where we will always be with Jesus, and where nothing will separate us from Him anymore.
William Barclay

"Prier, c'est demander des choses à Dieu".
Auteur inconnu, The Kneeling Christian, circa 1930, ch. 5.
I believe the vast majority of Christians would say, “Prayer is asking things from God.” But surely prayer is much more than merely “getting God to run our errands for us,” as someone puts it. It is a higher thing than the beggar knocking at the rich man’s door.
Unknown Author,The Kneeling Christian, circa 1930, ch. 5.
