Le Royaume des cieux
Eric Liddell

Jésus nous enseigne
Tom Ascol
Jesus teaches us that there is something far more fundamental to our sinfulness than the actual sins we commit. Our sins do not make us sinful. Rather, we commit sins because at the very center of our lives, we are sinful. Sin has invaded the inner recesses of our personalities.

Apocalypse 21 et 22
Robert Peterson, Hell on Trial : The Case for Eternal Punishment, 1995, p. 220.
Revelation 21 and 22 present heaven as the opposite of hell. Hell is separation from the gracious presence of God; heaven, living in that presence. Hell involves terrible pain; heaven, unceasing joy. Hell means the darkness of banishment from God’s glory; heaven, basking in its light. Hell consists of everlasting rejection by God; heaven, being His son or daughter forever. Hell entails the second death; heaven, eternal life.
Robert Peterson, Hell on Trial: The Case for Eternal Punishment, 1995, p. 220.

Sam Storms, Pleasures Evermore : The Life-Changing Power of Knowing God, 2000, p. 108-109.
It grieves me to say this, but the primary reason people are in bondage to sin is because people are bored with God. One of Satan’s most effective tactics is to convince us that God is a drag.

La pourriture secrète
J.C. Ryle
Great illnesses seldom attack the body, without a previous train of premonitory symptoms. Great falls seldom happen to a saint, without a previous course of secret backsliding. The church and the world are sometimes shocked by the sudden misconduct of some great professor of religion. Believers are discouraged and stumbled by it. The enemies of God rejoice and blaspheme. But if the truth could be known, the explanation of such cases would generally be found to have been private departure from God. Men fall in private, long before they fall in public. The tree falls with a great crash, but the secret decay which accounts for it, is often not discovered until it is down on the ground.

George Eldon Ladd, Commentary on the Revelation of John, Eerdmans, 1972, p. 62.
Although the church will be on earth in these final terrible days and will suffer fierce persecution and martyrdom at the hands of the beast, she will be kept from the hour of trial which is coming upon the pagan world (see Rev. 3:10).
George Eldon Ladd, Commentary on the Revelation of John, Eerdmans, 1972, p. 62.

Nulle part dans la Bible
John MacArthur, Charismatic Chaos, Zondervan, 1992, p. 248.
Nowhere in Scripture do we see real gifts of the Spirit operating when someone is out of control or under some sort of supernatural seizure. Nowhere does the New Testament teach that the Spirit of God causes Christians to fall into a trance, faint, or lapse into frenzied behavior. On the contrary, “The fruit of the Spirit is…self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23).
John MacArthur, Charismatic Chaos, Zondervan, 1992, p. 248.

Aimer
Henry Drummond
We love others, we love everybody, we love our enemies, because He first loved us... And that is how the love of God melts down the unlovely heart in man, and begets in him the new creature, who is patient and humble and gentle and unselfish.
Henry Drummond

Le pardon n'est pas toujours facile.
Marianne Williamson
Forgiveness is not always easy. At times it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.

L'obéissance

"One word stands out from all others as the key to knowing God, to having his peace and assurance in your heart; it is obedience."

Jésus nous entend
J.C. Ryle
Jesus hears us, and in His own good time will give an answer… He may sometimes keep us long waiting…but He will never send us empty away.

L'éternité
L'éternité sera trop courte pour raconter pleinement ses louanges. N'abrégeons pas notre joie en négligeant de commencer sur la terre.
Henry Law, Psaume 100, 1878.
Eternity will be too short fully to recount His praise. Let us not shorten our joy by neglecting to begin on earth.
Henry Law, Psalm 100, 1878.

Cas pratique
Psaume 32:5 ; 1 Jean 1:9.

When a True Christian sins, what happens?
1. His Fellowship with God is severed. David, when backslidden, mourned, “Day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer” (Psalm 32:4). As clouds hide the sun for days, so sin comes between the soul and God.
2. The Joy of salvation is lost. One loses all relish for spiritual things: the heart is empty. David, in this condition, confessed, “My sin is ever before me” and “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free Spirit” (Psalm 51:3, 12).
3. Power for service is lost. The Holy Spirit’s power is essential for any real witness for Christ. It cannot be faked. David prayed, “Thou desirest truth in the inward parts” and “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:6, 10).
4. The Christian invites divine chastisement. Hebrews 12:6-7 – “Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth…What son is he whom the father chasteneth not?” Psalm 89:32-33 – “I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless, my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.”
5. There is loss of reward. (Read 1 Corinthians 3:11-15.) Out of Fellowship means out of Service – out of service means that one is failing to lay up treasures in heaven. He is building of “wood, hay, and stubble” which cannot endure the test of the rewarding day (1 Corinthians 3:12-15). Many will be chagrined in that day by suffering Loss of Reward. Take the Way Back Now. Psalm 32:5; 1 John 1:9.

Les plaisirs passagers du péché
Sam Storms, Pleasures Evermore : The Life-Changing Power of Knowing God, 2000, p. 163.
What will turn our hearts from the passing pleasures of sin? What can strengthen our wills to reject the temptations of the flesh? What will energize our souls to turn from world delusions? What has the power to transform our desires and reconfigure our longings and stir our emotional chemistry that we might love what God loves and hate what He hates? Only one thing. Not rules and threats and fear and punishment. Only one thing. Jesus, in all His beauty. Jesus, in all that He is for us now and will be tomorrow.

La croissance de l'église
Gene Edward Veith
One would think that [persecution] would be an obstacle to church growth when joining the church meant a death sentence. And yet, the age of persecution was the greatest period of church growth in history.

Revêtir l'armure de Dieu
David Reid
If it were possible for us to "bind" Satan today, we would not need instruction about the various pieces of the armor of God. If Satan could be bound, he would not be capable of attacking us and throwing flaming missiles. In fact, the concept of "binding" Satan can actually be quite a dangerous belief. If we believe that we can "bind" Satan, we will (wrongly) think that he has been incapacitated, and we will be completely unprepared for the enemy’s attacks. In addition, if we believe that our prayers can "bind" Satan, we will be far less diligent about "putting on God’s armor," and will be defenseless and vulnerable to Satan’s attacks. Satan is not bound – and cannot be bound at the present time. Our strategy, then, is to be fully armed to repel his attack. Putting on the armor of God and fighting is the kind of resistance that thwarts the enemy’s scheming tactics, and forces Satan to flee.

La personne véritablement pieuse
William Hendriksen, Commentary on 1 an 2 Timothy and Titus.
The truly godly person is not interested in becoming rich. He possesses inner resources which furnish riches far beyond that which earth can offer.

"Tu peux avoir ce que tu veux".
Millard Erickson, Christian Theology, Baker, 1998.
We should observe that God does not send anyone to hell. He desires that none should perish (2 Pet. 3:9). God created humans to have fellowship with Him and provided the means by which they can have that fellowship. It is a human’s choice to experience to agony of hell. His or her own sin sends the person there, and his or her rejection of the benefits of Christ’s death prevents escape. As C.S. Lewis has put it, sin is the human being saying to God throughout life, “Go away and leave me alone.” Hell is God’s finally saying to the human, “You may have your wish.”
Millard Erickson, Christian Theology, Baker, 1998.
