Qu'est-ce que le péché ?
A.W. Pink, The Way of Salvation.
What is sin? Sin is a species of rebellion against God. It is self-pleasing: it is the utter ignoring of God’s claims: being completely indifferent whether my conduct pleases or displeases Him.
A.W. Pink, The Way of Salvation.

Le but de notre Dieu saint et juste
John Owen, Meditation on the Glory of Christ, 1684, ch. 9.
The purpose of our holy and righteous God was to save His church, but their sin could not go unpunished. It was, therefore, necessary that the punishment for that sin be transferred from those who deserved it but could not bear it, to one who did not deserve it but was able to bear it.
John Owen, Meditation on the Glory of Christ, 1684, ch. 9.

Plus vous connaissez le Christ, ...
Charles H. Spurgeon
The more you know about Christ, the less you will be satisfied with superficial views of Him.

Un sacrifice
Charles H. Spurgeon
[Throughout the Old Testament] this was always the idea of a sin-offering – that of a perfect victim; without offense on its own account, taking the place of the offender; the transferrence of the offender’s sin to that victim, and that expiation in the person of the victim for the sin done by another.

"Aime ton prochain comme toi-même"
John Piper
“Love your neighbor as yourself” is not a command to love yourself. It is a command to take your natural, already existing love of self and make it the measuring rod of your love for others. There is not a harder command in the Bible than this one. It means: Want to feed the hungry as much as you want to feed yourself when you get hungry. It means: Want to find your neighbor a job as much as you are glad you have a job. Want to help your fellow student get A’s as much as you want to get A’s. Want to help the person stalled on the freeway as much as you are glad you are not stalled on the freeway. Want to give the poor softball player a chance to play as much as you want to play the whole game. Want to share Christ with your neighbor as much as you are glad you know Christ yourself.

Servir
Donald S. Whitney, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life, 1991, p. 116.
Serving may be as appreciated as a good testimony in a worship service, but typically it’s as thankless as washing dishes after a church social. Most service, even that which seems the most glamorous, is like an iceberg. Only the eye of God ever sees the larger, hidden part of it.

Walter Ciszek
We go along, taking for granted that tomorrow will be very much like today, comfortable in the world we have created for ourselves, secure in the established order we have learned to live with, however imperfect it may be, and give little thought to God at all. Somehow, then, God must contrive to break through those routines of ours and remind us once again, like Israel, that we are ultimately dependent only upon him, that he has made us and destined us for life with him through all eternity, that the things of this world and this world itself are not our lasting city, that his we are and that we must look to him and turn to him in everything.

Le fondement des vraies relations durables
Danny Silk
I choose you. This is a foundation of true lasting relationships. It is the foundation for God's relationship with you. As Jesus declared to His disciples, you did not choose me but I chose you. Jesus chose you in the most difficult of circumstances. He chose you while you were in sin. While you were His enemy. His side of the relationship with you does not depend on your choice, but entirely upon His choice. The question is whether or not you will learn to build your relationships with Him and others, upon the foundation of your choice.
