Prier avec Dieu
Bill Thrasher, A Journey to Victorious Praying, Moody Publishers, 2003, p. 54.
It was a great breakthrough to realize that God was not necessarily leading me to pray for everything with equal intensity. To try to do so will kill a prayer life. To learn to let God set the agenda of our prayer life will resurrect it.
Bill Thrasher, A Journey to Victorious Praying, Moody Publishers, 2003, p. 54.

Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness, 1996, p. 154.
True joy comes only from God and He shares this joy with those who walk in fellowship with Him.
Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness, 1996, p. 154.

Prier sur la Parole.
John Piper, When I Don't Desire God par John Piper, 2004, p. 165-166.
Praying over the Word…has the effect of shaping our minds and hearts, so that we desire what the Word encourages us to desire, and not just what we desire by nature. That is why the prayers of Bible-saturated people sound so differently. Most people, before their prayers are soaked in Scripture, simply bring their natural desires to God, In other words, they pray the way an unbeliever would pray who is convinced that God might give him what he wants: health, a better job, safe journeys, a prosperous portfolio, successful children, plenty of food, a happy marriage, a car that works, a comfortable retirement, etc. None of these is evil. They’re just natural. You don’t have to be born again to want any of these. Desiring them – even from God – is no evidence of saving faith. So if these are all you pray for, there is a deep problem. Your desires have not yet been changed to put the glory of Christ at the center.
John Piper, When I Don’t Desire God by John Piper, 2004, p. 165-166.

La repentance authentique
1. Reconnaître librement son péché (1 Jean 1:9 ; Proverbes 28:13a).
Genuine repentance will make itself evident by its deeds and attitudes (Lk. 3:8; Ac. 26:20). The repentant person will:
1. Freely acknowledge his sin (1 John 1:9; Proverbs 28:13a).
2. Cease the activity for which he was disciplined or at least seek help if it’s a case of life dominating patterns (Proverbs 28:13b; Galatians 6:1f; James 5:19-20).
3. Make restitution and/or ask for forgiveness from those hurt as it is applicable (Philippians 18-19; Matthew 5:23-24).
4. He/she will demonstrate a genuine change of heart, a real concern and godly sorrow over his actions, not in order to be forgiven, but because of the harm caused to the glory of God and the hurt caused others (2 Corinthians 7:8-11; Psalms 51:17).
5. He/she will begin to manifest the fruit of the Spirit and a concern for the things of Christ (Galatians 5:22f).
J. Hampton Keathley, Church Discipline, 1996-2005.

L'ignorance théologique
Sam Storms, One Thing, Christian Focus, 2004, p.12-13.
Theological ignorance won’t take us very far, at least not in the right direction. Excitement uninformed by truth invariably leads either to idolatry or fanaticism. If we don’t know the God we enjoy, we may end up enjoying the wrong god!
Sam Storms, One Thing, Christian Focus, 2004, p.12-13.

John Piper, Why I Love the Apostle Paul, 2019, page 53.
Love is the overflow of joy in God that meets the needs of others… Or to say it another way: we do not merely seek to love in order to be happy, but we seek to be happy in God in order to love.
John Piper, Why I Love the Apostle Paul, 2019, page 53.

La sanctification
John MacArthur, Final Word, 2019, p. 106.
Sanctification doesn’t happen by osmosis. We can’t starve ourselves spiritually and still expect to grow in the likeness of Christ. All the facets of Scripture – all its rich benefits and blessings – are not available to those who fail or refuse to open it and study.
John MacArthur, Final Word, 2019, p. 106.

Le Fils de Dieu
John MacArthur et Richard Mayhue, Biblical Doctrine, 2017, page 238.
When Jesus was called “Son of God,” it was understood categorically by all as a title of deity, declaring Him equal with God and (more significantly) of the same essence as the Father. That is precisely why the Jewish leaders regarded the title Son of God the ultimate high blasphemy.
John MacArthur and Richard Mayhue, Biblical Doctrine, 2017, page 238.

Double nature
J.C. Ryle, Commentaire : Matthieu 1.
We should settle it firmly in our minds, that our Savior is perfect man as well as perfect God, and perfect God as well as perfect man. If we once lose sight of this great foundation truth, we may run into fearful heresies. The name Emmanuel takes in the whole mystery. Jesus is "God with us." He had a nature like our own in all things, sin only excepted. But though Jesus was "with us" in human flesh and blood, He was at the same time very God.
J.C. Ryle, Commentary: Matthew 1.

J.C. Ryle, Holiness, Moody Publishers, 2010, p. 33.
There is a remedy revealed for man’s need, as wide and broad and deep as man’s disease. We need not be afraid to look at sin, and study its nature, origin, power, extent, and vileness, if we only look at the same time at the almighty medicine provided for us in the salvation that is in Jesus Christ. Though sin has abounded, grace has much more abounded.
J.C. Ryle, Holiness, Moody Publishers, 2010, p. 33.

La force de tout péché
Sam Storms, One Thing, Christian Focus, Enjoying God Ministries, 2004, p.156.
The strength of all sin, whether simple or scandalous, is the lie that God can’t do what it can.

Nécessaire discipline
Jerry Bridges, The Gospel for Real Life par Jerry Bridges, 2002, p. 96.
Even when God deems it necessary to discipline us for persistent disobedience, He always does so out of love to restore us to the way of obedience (see Hebrews 12:4-11).

Edward Welch, Blame in on the Brain ?, 1998, p. 23-24.
While it is true that disease can be a result of divine discipline and can indicate a need for soul-searching and repentance, it is also true that disease can be unrelated to personal sin. In fact, to say that sickness is always a result of personal sin is actually an old heresy that goes back to Job and his counselors.
