John Lloyd Ogilvie, God's best for my life
The Creator and Sovereign of the universe has created us for communion with Him. Jesus taught us that prayer is not a device for marshaling the resources of Omnipotence to fulfill our desires, but a means by which these desires may be redirected according to the mind of God and made channels for the direction of His will. What does that say about the proportion of time spent talking and Ustening in our prayers?
John Lloyd Ogilvie, God's best for my life
Sam Storms, One Thing, Christian Focus, Enjoying God Ministries, 2004, p.17.
The purpose of existence is the pursuit of enjoyment…in God! Our desires, affections, pursuits, all that we say and do, all that we love or hate, are to be measured by this single criterion and subordinated to this one end: happiness in God.
Sam Storms, One Thing, Christian Focus, Enjoying God Ministries, 2004, p.17.

Nothing is impossible with God. Therefore, no person or situation is beyond His ability to bring complete restoration.

The grace that has freed us from bondage to sin is desperately needed to free us from our bondage to materialism.

The man who gazes upon and contemplates day by day the face of the Lord Jesus Christ, and who has caught the glow of the reality that the Lord is not a theory but an indwelling power and force in his life, is as a mirror reflecting the glory of the Lord.

The distinctions drawn between men are commonly based on the outward appearance of goodness or badness, on the ground of moral beauty or moral deformity--is this classification scientific? Or is there a deeper distinction between the Christian and the not-a-Christian as fundamental as that between the organic and the inorganic?

It’s without doubt that the population of heaven is multi-ethnic. There are many places you can turn in the Bible if you wish to prove the sin of racial discrimination, but when we read those in heaven are from “every tribe and tongue and people and nation” (Rev. 5:9), it’s unmistakable that God’s does not judge one’s worth based upon a superficial distinction such as skin pigmentation. God looks at the heart. And He loves and welcomes all people who have a heart to do His will. We live in a world that likes to separate. In God’s economy the only separation seen is those with Christ and those without Christ. Ultimately, that is all that matters.

Ray Ortlund
Here are four differences between deceit and honesty in our hearts: One, a deceitful heart doesn’t know its sins because it doesn’t want to know. But an honest heart is saying, “I’m listening. I’m open.” Two, a deceitful heart is more alert to how a sermon applies to someone else. But an honest heart is too concerned about itself to be busy with other people’s weaknesses. Three, a deceitful heart, when it isn’t growing, blames its inertia on hardship or its church or even on God Himself. But an honest heart says, “I need to get in gear.” Four, a deceitful heart delays response: “I’ll get around to it. But I just can’t right now.” An honest heart puts God first: “Lord, whatever You want, even right now.”

It is not only that sin consists in doing evil, but in not doing the good that we know.

“The really amazing thing is not that life on Earth is balanced on a knife-edge, but that the entire universe is balanced on a knife-edge, and would be total chaos if any of the natural ‘constants’ were off even slightly. You see,” Davies adds, “even if you dismiss man as a chance happening, the fact remains that the universe seems unreasonably suited to the existence of life—almost contrived—you might say a ‘put-up job’.”

Jesus must have been amazing preacher, because the Scripture tells us that when He preached people were amazed, which would make Him an amazing preacher. But what was the source of their amazement? He taught as one who had authority, not like the scribes and Pharisees. It is to be feared that we have far too many scribes and Pharisees in pulpits today. They do not preach with authority and the people are not amazed – amused, perhaps, but not amazed.

The saints fare the better for the insolence and outrages of their enemies, whose ruin is thereby accelerated; and somewhat God will do the sooner for his people, lest the enemy exalt himself.
