J.B. Johnston, The Prayer Meeting and its History, 1870.
The prayer meeting answers to this demand of the spiritual brotherhood, with more exclusiveness and direct fitness than any other ordinance of religious worship… There is a power in conferring and covenanting, on the part of kindred spirits, to come before God, and plead together some special promise… The prayer meeting is a divine ordinance, founded in man’s social nature… The prayer meeting is a special means of developing and cultivating Christian graces, and of promoting individual and social edification.

It can’t be presumption to be SURE [of our forgiveness] because it is Christ’s work, not ours; on the contrary, it is presumption to doubt His word and work.’

Ceux qui vous prêchent un "évangile" plein de succès et de vie abondante, mais sans épreuve et sans repentance, vous trahissent par un baiser.

John MacArthur, The Glory of Heaven, 1996, page 110.
Far from being stuffy and uncomfortable, our worship in heaven will bring us sheer pleasure. It will be unhindered enjoyment of God, unadulterated by any taint of guilt or any fear of insecurity. None of our earthly pleasures can compare with the perfect delight we will derive from heavenly worship. All the joys we derive from earthly love, earthly beauty, and other earthly blessings are nothing in comparison to the pure bliss of heavenly worship before the very face of Him from whom all true blessings flow. Only those who know Him can even begin to appreciate the unadulterated pleasure this will be.
John MacArthur, The Glory of Heaven, 1996, page 110.
Henry Drummond
Christ's life outwardly was one of the most troubled lives that was ever lived: tempest and tumult, tumult and tempest, the waves breaking over it all the time. But the inner life was a sea of glass. The great calm was always there.
Henry Drummond

John Muether
As the manifestation of the invisible church to the world in time and place, the visible church, though imperfect, remains the true church, because it displays the marks of the church: the Word, sacraments, and discipline. And it is the only church that we can see and fellowship with; we have no Gnostic recourse to any other church than the visible church.
John Muether
George Whitefield
If our sins outnumbered the number of the hairs on our head; yet the merits of the death of Jesus Christ are infinitely greater, and faith in His blood shall make them white as snow.

What’s in your heart? Your words spring from what’s in your heart. If your heart is contaminated, then your words will be tainted also. Try this: For every complaint, dissatisfaction find and meditate upon a scripture that counters the complaint. So speak God’s Word every time you feel negativity rising up inside of you. Before you speak negatively, censor your mouth with God’s Word. Allow God to filter your heart and He will direct your path.

Francis Frangipane
We can be assured that each step deeper into the Lord's Presence will reveal areas in our hearts which need to be cleansed. Do not be afraid. When the Spirit shows you areas of sin, it is not to condemn you, but to cleanse you.

God’s peace does not peacefully coexist with falsehood, sham, or injustice; so Gods’ peacemakers cannot simply ignore peace-destroying sin and error, any more than a surgeon can simply close up an infection wound: an abscess is bound to develop.

PASTEUR ET THÉOLOGIEN LUTHÉRIEN ALLEMAND (EMPRISONNÉ ET EXÉCUTÉ PAR LES NAZIS)
Why do I forget God’s Word? . . . To forget is not only a matter of the mind but also of the whole person, including the heart. That on which my life and soul depend I cannot forget. The more I begin to love the ordinances of God in creation and in his Word, the more they will be present for me at every hour. Only love guards against forgetting.

I have never known a pastor to be fired for prayerlessness, even though I expect that many justly could have been (myself included). There are at least three reasons for this. First, congregations rarely hold a pastor accountable for his devotional life. Second, pastors themselves too infrequently seek such accountability. Third, pastors can conceal the neglect of private duties more easily than the neglect of public duties. But what does such private neglect reveal? That a pastor fears man more than he fears God.
