GEORGE HOBSON
CHANOINE THÉOLOGIEN, CATHÉDRALE AMÉRICAINE DE PARIS
The Bible is an aesthetic achievement, a rendering in verbal form of the interplay of spiritual and material reality, of the Creator and His creation, and in particular of the Creator and His created icon, Man.

Être satisfait en Dieu
Sam Storms, Pleasures Evermore : The Life-Changing Power of Knowing God, 2000, p. 218.
God’s pursuit of my praise of Him is not weak self-seeking but the epitome of self-giving love! If my satisfaction in Him is incomplete until expressed in praise of Him for satisfying me, then God’s effort to solicit my worship is both the most loving thing He could possibly do for me and the most glorifying thing He could possibly do for Himself. For in my gladness in Him is His glory in me.

Les désirs de notre cœur
Robert Murray McCheyne, Comfort in Sorrow, Christian Focus, 2002, p. 44.
Christ frequently gives us the desires of our heart, though not at the peculiar time we desired, but a better time.

By the Incarnation, God became man; that is to say,the two natures, divine and human, are found united in the person of Christ. What is less well known to those who adhere to this mystery by faith is the astonishing transformation which He introduced into all nature and consequently into the manner in which we must henceforth conceive it. One ought rather to say the astonishing transformations, for this mystery includes in it so many others that one would never have done considering the consequences of it.

Chaque péché que nous commettons
Randy Smith
Every sin we commit is saying, among other things, that we need to take matters into our own hands to achieve the greatest joy (something we all desire) because doing it God’s way, we believe, will not result in our greatest blessings!

It is a certain truth, that none can understand the prophets’ and apostles’ writings aright, without the same Spirit by which they were written.
GEORGE FOX (1624–1691) ENGLISH FOUNDER OF THE SOCIETY OF FRIENDS (THE QUAKERS)

Jean Calvin
Wherever we find the Word of God surely preached and heard, and the sacraments administered according to the institution of Christ, there, it is not to be doubted, is a church of God.
John Calvin

L'homme de Dieu qui prêche
John Armstrong, Feed My Sheep, éd. Don Kistler, Soli Deo Gloria Ministries, 2002, p. 189.
[The preacher is] the man of God who is set on fire with the truth of God, who believes that he is called by God and equipped by the Spirit of God to speak to the minds of his hearers in such a compelling way that he must have an audience.
John Armstrong, Feed My Sheep, ed. Don Kistler, Soli Deo Gloria Ministries, 2002, p. 189.

Un homme peut prêcher la parole
Ray Ortlund
A man can preach the word, but still the word is not in him. It has not yet become interior to him, experientialized to him, a part of him. Such preaching is mere wind. True preaching is brewed within, as the gospel enters into a man, floods his awareness, rearranges his own interiority, and surges out of him as something divine and yet still his own.

Mon plaidoyer
Helmut Thielicke, A Little Exercise for Young Theologians, Eerdmans, 1962, p. 31.
My plea is simply this: every theological idea which makes an impression upon you must be regarded as a challenge to your faith. Do not assume as a matter of course that you believe whatever impresses you theologically and enlightens you intellectually. Otherwise suddenly you are believing no longer in Jesus Christ, but in Luther, or in one of your other theological teachers.
Helmut Thielicke, A Little Exercise for Young Theologians, Eerdmans, 1962, p. 31.

3 questions
John Wesley
