Jerry Bridges, Trusting God, 1988, p. 138.
The extent of God’s love at Calvary is seen in both the infinite cost to Him of giving His one and only Son, and in the wretched and miserable condition of those He loved. God could not remove our sins without an infinite cost to both Himself and His Son. And because of their great love for us, both were willing—yes more than merely willing—to pay that great cost, the Father in giving His one and only Son, and the Son in laying down His life for us. One of the essential characteristics of love is the element of self-sacrifice, and this was demonstrated for us to its ultimate in God’s love at Calvary.
Jerry Bridges, Trusting God, 1988, p. 138.

Une mort nécessaire
John Gerstner, Theology for Everyman, Moody, 1965, chapitre 5.
Jesus knew that if there had been any conceivable way whereby God could have redeemed the world other than by the horrible death of His Son, God would never have resorted to such an expedient. He knew that there never could be any other name given under Heaven whereby men must be saved. He knew there was none other good enough to pay the price of sin; none other could open the door and let us in. Jesus knew that if those dear ones whom He had left were to drink of the vine again with Him in the kingdom of God, there was but one way – He must drink of the cup of God’s wrath.
John Gerstner, Theology for Everyman, Moody, 1965, Chapter 5.

O think, that he who was master of all heaven’s majesty came down to be the victim of all man’s misery!

Se relever
Randy Smith
It doesn’t matter how bad you were hurt. It doesn’t matter if the person has yet to ask for your forgiveness. It doesn’t matter how strongly you feel you can justify your bitterness. It doesn’t matter is the offender still continues to sin against you. Bitterness in any form is a sin against God. You are choosing to be bitter. You will never be free until you acknowledge your bitterness, own up to it and ask for the Lord’s forgiveness.

La Bible et la Bible seule
Sam Storms
The Bible and the Bible alone (Sola Scriptura) is sufficient to provide us with all truth essential for salvation. Whether explicitly or implicitly, everything necessary for faith and life can be found in Scripture.

Le vrai pardon
Sam Storms
« True forgiveness pursues relationship and restoration. True forgiveness is not satisfied with simply canceling the debt. It longs to love again. »

Le Christ est mort pour nous
Scott Hafemann
God did not demand that we first demonstrate our allegiance to Him before Christ would agree to die in our place. To demand that we somehow show ourselves deserving of forgiveness in order to regain our status as His children would have been futile. What can ungodly, rebellious sinners offer God that would move the holy Creator of the universe to sacrifice His only Son on their behalf? So God acted first, motivated solely by his own sovereign love, to grant mercy to His people as the ultimate expression of His grace (Exodus 33:19; Isaiah 63:7; Romans 9:15-18; Ephesians 2:4; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:3). Christ died for us because the Father and the Son loved the unlovable.

Vance Havner
It is tragic to go through our days making Christ the subject of our study but not the sustenance of our souls.

Dans la nuit la plus sombre de l'âme
D.A. Carson, How Long, O Lord ? Baker, 1990.
In the darkest night of the soul, Christians have something to hold onto that Job never knew – we know Christ crucified. Christians have learned that when there seems to be no other evidence of God’s love, they cannot escape the cross. “He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)… When we suffer there will sometimes be mystery. Will there also be faith? Yes. If our attention is focused more on the cross and on the God of the cross than on the suffering itself.
D.A. Carson, How Long, O Lord? Baker, 1990.

Qu'est-ce que le péché ?
A.W. Pink, The Way of Salvation.
What is sin? Sin is a species of rebellion against God. It is self-pleasing: it is the utter ignoring of God’s claims: being completely indifferent whether my conduct pleases or displeases Him.
A.W. Pink, The Way of Salvation.

Le but de notre Dieu saint et juste
John Owen, Meditation on the Glory of Christ, 1684, ch. 9.
The purpose of our holy and righteous God was to save His church, but their sin could not go unpunished. It was, therefore, necessary that the punishment for that sin be transferred from those who deserved it but could not bear it, to one who did not deserve it but was able to bear it.
John Owen, Meditation on the Glory of Christ, 1684, ch. 9.
