La croix confirme la Bible
William Farley, Gospel-Powered Parenting, 2009, p. 94.
The cross confirms all that we have said about the infinite offense of sin. It says that no finite sacrifice can atone for sin (Heb. 10:4). Nothing but a sacrifice of infinite value, God Himself, can atone for our offenses. In addition, no one but an infinite Being is capable of suffering sufficiently to atone for infinite offenses against an infinitely holy God.

Le Saint-Esprit et la Bible
George Sweeting, Who Said That? Moody Press, 1995, p. 69.
The very same Holy Spirit who led these men to write, longs to lead us today so we can understand. Without the Holy Spirit, the Bible is like an ocean which cannot be sounded, heavens which cannot be surveyed, mines which cannot be explored, and mysteries beyond unraveling. We must – we must – yield to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
George Sweeting, Who Said That? Moody Press, 1995, p. 69.

Voir le monde à la manière de Dieu
Melvin Tinker, Wisdom to Live By, Christian Focus Publications, 1998, p. 96- 97.
Wisdom is all a matter of viewing the world God’s way, with God’s revelation providing the necessary framework which alone makes sense of life, giving it some sort of coherence and direction. This is sometimes called a worldview, a kind of moral map with the main points located so we can steer our way through life to maximum benefit. Accordingly, whatever it is that is to be studied, whether science, history, or home economics, all of these things can be placed within a Christian framework, in terms of the Creator-Redeeming God, and where they can be made sense of.

Une certaine forme de maturité

There is a certain kind of maturity that can be attained only through the discipline of suffering.

De tout temps
John Napier, Charismatic Challenge, 2003, p. 112.
From the Garden of Eden, to the experience of Job, to the temptation of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the present day, Satan has tried to move man away from submission to the authority of God and His Word. If he cannot do it through direct enticement or challenge, he will attempt to do it through all manner of subtlety and deception. That is why one must be careful not to embrace new revelations that come through any avenue: impressions, intuition, visions, dreams, tongues, or prophecy. As noted previously, such undermine both the authority and sufficiency of Scripture.
John Napier, Charismatic Challenge, 2003, p. 112.

John White
There are no shortcuts to holiness. There is no easy way to conquer the flesh. Christian character is a matter of growth, not of secrets or formulas. Growth takes time. It also takes the discipline of prayer, of study, of heart searching, of sensitivity to the Holy Spirit's pleading, and of consistent obedience. It must always begin with a renewed thankfulness for the never-ending grace of God, and a sense of being set free repeatedly to a life of holiness.

Nous appuyer sur la sagesse de Dieu
Gary R. Collins
We cannot keep pure minds in our own strength. Instead, we need to rely on God's wisdom, trusting Him to help us grow in the knowledge of God.

Etude approfondie
Tim Challies, The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment, 2007, page 57.
By studying Proverbs and other portions of the Bible it often seems that discernment is a subset of wisdom. There seems to be a progression from knowledge, which refers to bare facts, to wisdom, which refers to understanding moral and ethical dimensions of facts and data, to discernment, which is the application of wisdom. Wisdom is a prerequisite to discernment. Discernment is wisdom in action.

DEREK WILLIAMS
THE BIBLE APPLICATION HANDBOOK, 1999
The four gospels are essential to our understanding of who Jesus was and what he taught and did, and therefore they are fundamental to our understanding of Christianity. . . . Put out of your mind the Sunday School image of a smiling Jesus carrying a lamb on his shoulders through a summer meadow. Imagine instead a kindly but forthright person surrounded by an angry mob in a narrow Near Eastern back street, telling them that they’ve had their religion wrong for centuries and that he alone has got it right. . . .

L'avidité cupide
David Powlison, Seeing With New Eyes, P&R Publishers, 2003, p.114.
Covetous greed will make you angry and manipulative… Complacent, satisfied greed makes you care less about what really matters; because it lulls you to sleep… Anxious greed [will make you worry].

Quand Jésus était sur Terre
Melvin Tinker, Wisdom to Live By, Christian Focus Publications, 1998, p. 132-133.
Here is the Son of God, who in less than three years achieved far more than kings and generals had ever achieved in a thousand years, taking time out. Why? Well, He knew His needs and limitations – even He couldn’t work twenty-four hours a day seven days a week – and neither can we. But also He could have the confidence to do this because of His quiet, serene knowledge that His time was in His Father’s hands, that He wasn’t going to change the world by one endless round of activity, but by doing things in God’s time in God’s way.
Melvin Tinker, Wisdom to Live By, Christian Focus Publications, 1998, p. 132-133.
