Nous ne venons pas à l'église, pour être une église. Nous venons au Christ, et ensuite nous sommes construits en tant qu'église. Si nous venons à l'église juste pour être ensemble, nous n'aurons que les uns les autres. Et ce n'est pas suffisant. Inévitablement, nos cœurs se vident, puis se mettent en colère. Si nous faisons passer la communauté en premier, nous la détruirons. Mais si nous venons d'abord au Christ, si nous nous soumettons à lui et si nous tirons notre vie de lui, la communauté se développe.

We don’t come to church, to be a church. We come to Christ, and then we are built up as a church. If we come to church just to be with one another, one another is all we’ll get. And it isn’t enough. Inevitably, our hearts will grow empty, and then angry. If we put community first, we will destroy community. But if we come to Christ first and submit ourselves to Him and draw life from Him, community gets traction.
