JOSEPH COOK
CITÉ DANS BILLY GRAHAM, PEACE WITH GOD, 1984
Do you know a book that you are willing to put under your head for a pillow when you are dying?Very well; that is the book you want to study when you are living. There is only one such book in the world.

John Piper, Desiring God, 1996, p. 138.
Prayer is the open admission that without Christ we can do nothing. And prayer is the turning away from ourselves to God in the confidence that He will provide the help we need. Prayer humbles us as needy, and exalts God as wealthy.
John Piper, Desiring God, 1996, p. 138.

Many facts about Jesus are attractive to the secular mind. He exhibited a gentle spirit and showed great compassion for the poor and hurting. He continually called for justice to be balanced with mercy. His radical teachings were completely opposite of the counsel of others: Rather than advocating revenge, Jesus taught people to love their neighbors in the same way in which they loved themselves. But there is one claim about Jesus that is highly offensive to our pluralistic society: the truth that faith in him is the only way to heaven.

John Newton, John Newton’s Letters, Family Worship.
Indeed, a person who lives in the exercise of faith and love, and who finds by experience that it is good for him to draw near to God, will not need to be told how often he must pray, any more than how often he must converse with an earthly friend. Those whom we love, we love to be much with. Love is the best casuist, and either resolves or prevents a thousand scruples and questions, which may perplex those who only serve God from principles of constraint and fear. A believer will account those his happiest days, when he has most leisure and most liberty of spirit for the exercise of prayer.

There are three central aspects of Christianity. The first is the hope of eternal life, which is the beginning and end of our faith. The second is righteousness, which is the beginning and end of judgment. The third is joy, which is the beginning and end of love. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have had a glimpse of what is promised for all who are saved, because he is the first fruits of the harvest of salvation. Through the example of Jesus Christ in his life and work, we understand righteousness, and by following his example we can be sure of favorable judgment. Through the joy that Jesus mediates, which originates in his perfect heart of love, we want to share that joy and so grow in his love.

Le diable essaiera de nous détruire
Melvin Tinker, Wisdom to Live By, Christian Focus Publications, 1998, p. 178.
The devil will try to destroy us by leading us into immoral behavior (Eph. 4:27). That is a real struggle for every Christian. Which is easier: to march around the city and claim it for Christ or to stop running down a fellow believer behind her back? Which is the more demanding: to pray over someone that the demon of jealousy be cast out or going up to someone and asking their forgiveness for the way you have hurt them by your cutting remarks inspired by jealousy? I know which is a real wrestling match for me (Eph. 6:12). This is where the real battle lies in Christian relationships, putting into practice at personal cost Christian truth – not some imaginary Dungeon and Dragons world.
Melvin Tinker, Wisdom to Live By, Christian Focus Publications, 1998, p. 178.

J.C. Ryle
They are born again of the Spirit; they all possess repentance towards God, faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ,” and holiness of life and conversion. They all hate sin, and they all love Christ… They are all led by one Spirit; they all build upon one foundation; they all draw their religion from one single book – that is the Bible. They are all joined to one great center – that is Jesus Christ. They all even now can say with one heart, “Hallelujah;” and they can all respond with one heart and voice, Amen and Amen.

L'enseignement de la Parole

Pastors teaching the Word is the core of a church’s discipling ministry. It provides the food and water that feeds all the other discipling relationships within the church.

Deux faits essentiels
Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness, 1996, p. 70.
Only as we reckon on these twin facts – that I am dead to sin and its reign over me and that I am alive to God, united to Him who strengthens me – can I keep sin from reigning in my mortal body.
Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness, 1996, p. 70.

Éphésiens 5:18
George Sweeting, Who Said That?
Notice three important facts about Ephesians 5:18. First, it is in the imperative mood. It is not a suggestion or an appeal, but a command. Anything less than the fullness of the Spirit is disobedience to the Word of God. Second, it is a present tense verb. We are to be filled with the Holy Spirit now. And it is a continuous action verb. It could be translated, “Be being filled with the Spirit.” We must be filled daily, constantly, moment by moment. Yesterday’s blessings are not sufficient for today or tomorrow. Third, it is a passive verb. That means that being filled with the Spirit is not something we do, but something that is done for us. We must be yielded. We must be willing. We must be believing. But God does the filling. We simply receive it by faith.

La prédication
J.I. Packer, Preaching a Biblical Interpretation in Inerrancy and Common Sense, édité par Roger Nicole et J. Ramsey Michaels, Baker, 1980, p. 189.
Preaching appears in the Bible as a relaying of what God has said about Himself and His doings, and about men in relation to Him, plus a pressing of His commands, promises, warnings, and assurances, with a view to winning the hearer or hearers…to a positive response.

John Piper, Brothers, We Are Not Professionals, 2002, p. 207.
If we want the meaning and the worth and the beauty and the power of the cross of Christ to be seen and loved in our churches, and if the design of the death of His Son is not only to reconcile us to God but to reconcile alienated ethnic groups to each other in Christ, then will we not display and magnify the cross of Christ better by more and deeper and sweeter ethnic diversity and unity in our worship and life?

Miser sur un miracle de Dieu ?
Oswald Chambers
Prayer is often a temptation to bank on a miracle of God instead of on a moral issue, i.e., it is much easier to ask God to do my work than it is to do it myself. Until we are disciplined properly, we will always be inclined to bank on God's miracles and refuse to do the moral thing ourselves. It is our job, and it will never be done unless we do it.
Oswald Chambers

L'importance de la prière
James Rosscup
The apostles gave the importance of prayer in preaching: “We will devote ourselves to prayer, and to the ministry of the Word” (Acts 6:4). The order is interesting. Even if the mention of prayer first is not significant, it is certain that prayer is just as primary for preachers as the Word.

Dieu répond à la prière
Oswald Chambers
Whenever the insistence is on the point that God answers prayer, we are off the track. The meaning of prayer is that we get hold of God, not of the answer.

La loi de la Bible
John MacArthur
Since the conscience holds people to their highest perceived standard, believers need to set that standard to the highest level by submitting to all of God’s Word. As they continually fill their minds with the truths of Scripture, believers clarify God’s perfect law. Their consciences will then call them to live according to that law.
John MacArthur
